Coco Gauf of the United States beat Aryana Sabalenka of Belarus at the French Open Tennis Tournament Final. The score was 6-7, 6-2, 6-4.
After the defeat, Aryana made a very shocking statement. “I would have won had I played better”. I felt others should learn from her to issue such intelligent statement.
Politician – I would have won had I got more votes.
Student – I would have passed had I got more marks.
Business Executive – Our company would have succeeded had we secured more funding.
Olympic Runner – I would have won the gold had I ran faster.
Chess Player – I would have won if I had a better strategy.
Job Applicant – I would have gotten the job if I had better qualification.
Actor – I would have landed the role had I acted better.
Beauty Contestant – I would have won had I presented myself better.
What a great statement. Nobody in the world knows this fact

ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments Rajesh. That's a good one.
DeleteI did not see the match or the post match interview.
ReplyDeletePossibly, Aryana was speaking her country's English.
"Mostly possible only" is Indian English, for example.
Thanks for your comments Kirtivasan. Your comment gives me the idea to write a blog post about Indian English. Will inclde things like "what is your good name" and "where are you basically from".
DeleteThat was an offhand remark made at a tense moment. I see no fault in her remark.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments Mr. KP. I did not see any fault either. I wanted to write a humor about this. Please wait for my next blog post (taking advantage of Kirtivasan's comment).
DeleteAwaiting your next blog eagerly
ReplyDeleteIt was such meaningless thing to say. But that got into problems. It gave the impression that Gauff won because Sabalenka didn't play well.
ReplyDeleteBut in same speech, she did give credit to Gauff.
But still, the next day she clarified.
Gauff's reaction was far more mature. She said Sabalenka was under a lot of emotional pressure and she gave Sabalenka the benefit of doubt.
Thanks for your comments Pradeep. Looks like you watched the match and the post game interview. Kudos to you.
DeleteMany feel so, but do not express publicly. Everyone thinks that he/she is better than the other and this time they couldn't draw out the capability. This very thought urge them to participate in contests, may they never win. But the confidence( shouldn't be overconfidence) is the core of actions and activities. All may not have that confidence, as others have. Nice.
