I know Indian TV serials have illogical
and unbelievable stories. I never watch
them. In our home, we have Tamil Sun TV
only. This is for the benefit of my
wife. She watches a few serials.
My wife briefs me once in a while what
is happening in those few serials she watches.
Here is one story in a serial that is beyond unbelievable.
There is a girl. She gets married and lives with her husband
and his parents. They (all 3) ill treat
her. They ask her to go back to her parent’s
home permanently. She refuses. Why she refuses? Here is her reason:
Her uncle thinks she is happily married. She does not want to disappoint him. Therefore, she will stay in the in-law’s home
and willing to suffer.
Now, the husband and his parents are
taking advantage of this. They tell her
that she will be treated as a household servant in their home. She agrees.
She should address them Amma and Ayya (Tamil words for a servant to
address the masters). She agrees. Husband should be addressed as “Sir”. She agrees
They find a second wife for the son and
the son marries the new girl. The second
wife treats the first wife even more harshly.
The son and his parents enjoy this.
The son and the second wife goes to the
bedroom every night and the first wife sleeps in the hall, on the floor.
Why the first wife willingly goes
through this? She does not want to
disappoint her uncle who thinks she has a happy married life. This is happening in 2013? Give me a break.
If you can think of any more bizarre
incidents that can be added to this story, please let me know. I will forward them to that serial’s
director.
Seriously, come to think of it, I enjoy
the story for pure fun. I won’t watch
the serial. My wife’s weekly synopsis is
enough.
Oh My God!! Such regressive stories in this age and times!! And there is an audience for such serials too! Amazing!! :|
ReplyDeleteOh God, I hate serials! I used to watch 'kolangal' for the sake of my relative who was with us for sometime! The story was moving in snail's pace with repeated incidents...in one film Vivek is the director of a serial...his assistant comes and asks him "We have to shoot today's episode Sir, what shall I do?" Vivek asks, " Where did you leave the story yesterday?" The asst. says "The heroine was coming down the stairs". Vivek says "then, let her go up again in today's episode!" Very good example of today's serials!
ReplyDeleteSg, It is 2013 for us, I agree. I too hate such serials. but I am telling you this is still happening in some parts of india ( south included), pakistan, and many arab countries.
ReplyDeleteTrue. It is unbelievable, that too in 21st century.I don't watch serials. I think serials are filled with tears of sufferings from in-laws.From the clippings the whole story comes out.
ReplyDeleteBy the by the long absence of yours gave a feel that you were on a trip to some places.
Actually, that story sounds very believable.
ReplyDeleteRegards,
Manti Te'o
Thanks for your comments Shilpa. They do such regressive stories because they have an audience.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments Sandhya. That one is funny.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments Priyaa. I agree that these things really happen somewhere. But I was laughing at the reason this girl gave for staying with the in-laws and go through the suffering.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments Sarala. I was very busy with a special project and that is why was absent here. In fact, I will be going on vacation for a month in February.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments Manti. You may be one of the best football players. But I think you are the best stupid guy in the whole world. You talk to a girl on the phone for more than 1000 hours for 3 years and never knew that person is a man? Never asked for her picture? Never wanted to see her on webcam? Never invited her to one of your football games?
ReplyDeleteThis would make a successful Indian TV Serial.
On the other hand, are you very clever enough to float this story and hide your sexual preference so that you can get a better professional contract?
Anyway, I like the way you play football. Good luck to you.
There is one more serial where there is a evil person called 'Prema'. She single-handedly kills many people in multiple families! I am so much afraid of this serial, actually. Sometimes the sound of the TV serial comes through my door and affects me :)
ReplyDeleteDestination Infinity
Just as such incidents happen in many places and families, there are any number of sane and normal families with day to day problems which are solved with panache and finesse. Why can't we see those? There is enough drama in everyone's life and there is no dearth of real life experiences that would make for greater soaps. Sadly we either have such regressive serials or those portraying life at the other extreme, where the DIL illtreats her in-laws and these are called 'progressive', believe it or not!
ReplyDeletelol .. this is utter nonsense !
ReplyDeleteour indian television is in deep s**t ..
thankgod i don't have a television !
Thanks for your comments Rajesh. My wife told me about Prema. She looks and acts very evil. That is a complement for her acting skills.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your complements Zyphyr. I agree with you 100%.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments Rahul. If I don't go into the logic of the story, it is enjoyable. Just like Jerry Lewis movies.
ReplyDeleteHi SG,
ReplyDeleteI don't know what has happened to the TV serials, all of them are pure crap, each one trying to out wit the other, in how crapping they can make the serial. Plus they have at least 5 minutes of song showing the titles, and then 1 minute of some stupid dialogue, and again advertisement, and I cannot understand how people become hooked to such serials both in Hindi, Tamil and of course other languages too.
The MILs and SILs, are all so evil planning, plotting bizarre things.
There was a time when in Doordarshan they used to show such lovely intellectually stimulating serials which used to be aired only once a week, like plays of Ibsen, and some famous Indian writers too, it was so good to watch them. What is stopping them in producing such good serials, I cannot understand.
Hmm...I find your comment that these serials exist because they have an audience very interesting SG!
ReplyDeleteI always felt that serials influence what happens in homes more that being influenced by them. A vicious cycle I guess.
I personally believe that if these detrimental soaps are stopped, it do a world of good!
agree with u
ReplyDeletemajority serials are foolish
Thanks for your comments Rama. I agree with you 100%.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments V. Yes, it is a vicious cycle.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments sm. You are right. Majority of the serials are foolish.
ReplyDeleteHow awful... to think there is an audience for such trash... i worry about the influence such serials have on an already regressive society
ReplyDeleteI think I should seriously switch to writing for TV serials. But it is difficult SG, to write fiction and more difficult to write a fairy tale. I have a fiction blog which I find very difficult to sustain. Infact there is one unfinished story hanging out there :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments Ash. I agree with you. It is sad these things are happening.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments Meera. Good luck with your fiction blog. I think you should write for TV serial. It is very easy. Just go with the flow. For example, when the song "kolaveri" came, all Tamil serials used this word, for no reason, in conversation many times for no reason.
