Ankita has awarded me the “Very Inspiring Blogger Award”. Thanks a lot Ankita for deciding that I deserve this award. As per the rules, I have to write 7 facts about me.
I started my own blog on June
8, 2009. Since then I have won a few
awards. Almost all of them asked me to
tell something about me. Whatever I can
tell publicly about me, I already wrote about them. A while ago, in accepting an award I had
asked my wife, son, and daughter to tell the readers something about me. I published them without editing. I am going to select 6 of them from their
list and the 7th one is my own which has not been published so far.
These 6 are from my family:
Highly Intelligent and full
of confidence which borders on cocky/arrogance.
Excellent parallel parker of
cars.
Horrible at drawing. Will never be mistaken as an artist.
Never volunteer to help
anyone. But if they ask for help, will
help to his full ability.
He chose his college based on
the fact that it was coed and on the beach.
Highly kept secret in the
family. Excellent gourmet cook.
The final fact (7th
one) is written by me. Here it is:
I have met Lt.Gen. Paul W.
Tibbets, Jr. for a few seconds. Did not
shake his hands. He came to my office to
collect something. He was in full
military uniform. I can see his name tag
on his chest. Still, I asked him to show
his Identification Card, He said “sure”. Took out his ID from his wallet and handed it
over to me. I looked at it. Gave it to him back saying “Thanks”. He took
it back saying “you’re welcome”. I handed over the package. He left. The whole episode took only 20 seconds.
You may wonder who this
Lt.Gen. Paul W. Tibbets, Jr. is. He is
the U.S. Air Force Pilot who actually pressed the button and dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima.
I am not tagging any one.
So you actually met Paul Tibbets eh?
ReplyDeleteKill a few people and you are a murderer.
Kill hundreds and you are a warrior.
Kill millions and you are a conquerer.
Looks like the more you kill the better the description.
Tibbets as well as his atomic weapon 'Little Boy' (dropped on Hiroshima) are no match for me.
Sweeney as well as his atomic weapon 'Fat Man' (dropped on Nagasaki) are also no match for me.
I outlived them all.
Regards,
Tsutomu Yamaguchi
Thanks for your comments Mr. Yamaguchi. I feel sorry for you as a human being because you were one of the few people who survived both the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings. But don’t blame Tibbets and Sweeney. The entire fault is with your Emperor Hirohito and the Prime Minister Heideki Tojo. USA was only a spectator during World War 2 when both these guys decided, recklessly, to drag USA into the war by attacking Pearl Harbor (USA). They woke up the sleeping giant.
ReplyDeleteOMG! You met him!!! I still remember how I felt while reading that 10th standard English lesson about the 'little boy'...
ReplyDeleteOh! BTW, congratulations :)May you receive more and more awards :) TC! Keep smiling :)
Thanks for your congratulations Sindhu. I met him only for a few seconds.
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking up the tag!!! College on beach..wow! great that you met him and congrats for that! :)
ReplyDeleteO! You met him, what to call conqueror or murderer.Anyway accomplished the mission assigned.
ReplyDeleteYou really deserve the award,SG.
I'll be reading the other ones also in a couple of days.
Thanks for your comments Ankita. Yes, I selected my college only for that reason. On those days, I was young and immature. But I enjoyed my college life.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments Sarala. Gen. Tibbets is neither a conqueror nor a murderer. As a military man, he was only carrying out the orders given by his high command.
ReplyDeleteI remember reading that seventh point about you, before - either in this blog or as a comment in my blog. Then, you didn't mention that he was the person who dropped the nuclear bomb, but just said he was famous.
ReplyDeleteDestination Infinity
Congrats for award
ReplyDeletethanks
Congrats on the award and that's interesting to note the person behind "Little boy". Wonder how he must have felt carrying the orders?
ReplyDeleteCongrats!
ReplyDeleteIt was good to know a few things about you.
'Never volunteer to help anyone. But if they ask for help, will help to his full ability.' This is my husband's policy too because people took him for granted after receiving help without asking many times, earlier!
ReplyDeleteYou are a cook? Great!
How did you feel when you came face to face with the atom bomb man?
Good to know more things about you, SG!
I remember reading all the first 6 points. But wow! you met the guy who actually dropped the bomb!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments Rajesh. You have a good memory.
ReplyDeleteThanks Krishna.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments Asha. We will never know the answer to that. He never gave any interview about how he felt. And, now he is dead.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rama. I am glad you liked this post
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments Sandhya. At that moment (those 20 seonds) I did not feel anything. I was concentrating on handing over the package to him. After he left, the point you raised slowly sunk in.
ReplyDeleteSurprise! Surprise! Surprise! Long time no see.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments Ash. What happened? Where have you been? I am in India temporariy and will be returning back within a month.
Loved the facts about parallel parking [I always find it a nightmare] and co-ed college [ Perfectly kosher]
ReplyDeleteAs for A bomb man, I would have asked if he felt remorse.
Oppenheimer never exhibited remorse - in fact was quite jubiliant about it.
But then, like you said, Tibbets was just a soldier obeying commands.
Good to know a bit about you! Wow! You met THE man!
ReplyDeleteDid you really meet him?
ReplyDeleteAs for awards.....I have maintained that if the content is good, awards are sure to come by.
Congratulations
Thanks for your comments Sweety. As you said, he was only carrying the orders issued by his superior officers. He has no say in the decision making.
ReplyDeleteThanks Shilpa.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments Mr. Chowla. And, thanks for your congrats. Yes, I did meet him. It was a brief one for just 20 seconds. It was all business.
ReplyDeleteOh wow! you will be back in a month then :) That's awesome. You must be missing California. I have been reading your posts about your stay in Chennai. Have lots of yummy food while you are there. :)
ReplyDeleteNice to know you!
ReplyDeleteI am like this too - 'Never volunteer to help anyone. But if they ask for help, will help to his full ability."
And the last line about you... Its really scary. Wonder how you controlled your emotions
Thanks Ash. The moment we leave Chennai, the shares of Fast Track (call taxi service) will come down. We hire every day - some days twice a day.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments Satya. It was only for 20 seconds. All business. It did not even sink in.
ReplyDeleteCongrats Sg and Fully Deserved...

Hi SG :)
ReplyDeleteHow are you? I have been regularly visiting your blog to see if you have updated any latest interesting happening. It is true that I missed your updates but, as I haven't been able to update my blogs too I could understand you might be busy.
But, if I didn't write to you today how thankful I am, I would not excuse myself. Thank you so much for your concern about my health, it means a lot! Nothing is serious, I am recovered from fever and weakness I had.
Hope you get some free time from your busy schedule to share a new article with us... TC! Keep smiling :)
