Donald Trump

Next U.S. Presidential Election is on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, to replace Barrack Obama He cannot stand for reelection because he can be President only for 2 terms.

The members of the 2 political parties (Republicans and Democrats) are already in full swing to decide who is going to be their party’s candidate. There are 17 people are in the field for Republican Party including Donald Trump and Bobby Jindal. There are 3 in the Democratic Party including Hillary Clinton.

In India, if there is an election, the candidate to represent the party and contest will be decided by the respective party headquarters/leaders. It is not like that in USA. The people will have to elect the candidate to contest the general election. The Chairman of the Party or the senior most leaders have no say in who will be elected to contest the election.

                                                                  Donald Trump

One of the 17 Republican candidates for the Republican Party nomination is Mr. Donald Trump. He is not a career politician. He is a businessman and a billionaire. Every Republican Party leader including the Chairman of that party hates Mr. Trump. They all wish he goes away. But the American people love him. Therefore, he is number one in the polls among these 17 candidates. Therefore, the leadership of the Republican Party cannot ignore him.

Why the Republican leadership hate him? Since he is not a career politician, he does not give “politically correct” speech. He does not sugar coat. He is very blunt and tells the audience what is really on his mind. He said nasty things about illegal immigrants from Mexico. Other Republican contestants do not want to touch the immigration subject for the fear of losing Mexican/Spanish votes.  He also dissed other Republican leaders.

Mr. Trump has declared that if he is not treated with respect by the fellow Republicans, he will run for the President of USA as an independent candidate (if he did not get the nomination). This has created fear/terror among all the Republican leaders. If Mr. Trump runs as an Independent candidate, it is absolutely certain Republicans will lose and Hillary Clinton will easily win.

Last Thursday, a Republican supporting television network (Fox News) arranged a debate among these 17 candidates. At the start of the debate, it was very clear that the whole program was staged to destroy Mr. Trump. Here are the first few questions of the debate – addressed only to Mr. Trump:

Is there anyone on stage, and can I see hands, who is unwilling tonight to pledge your support to the eventual nominee of the Republican party and pledge to not run an independent campaign against that person.

Mr. Trump, one of the things people love about you is you speak your mind and you don’t use a politician’s filter. However, that is not without its downsides, in particular, when it comes to women. You’ve called women you don’t like “fat pigs, dogs, slobs, and disgusting animals.”

When someone hits at Mr. Trump, he always hits back with more force. The second question was asked by a lady television moderator during the debate. Now Mr. Trump is going after her with nasty comments about her.

I am an independent and do not belong/support any party. But here is my issue. These questions are fine if you are “interviewing” a candidate. But this was not an interview. This was a “debate” with several candidates participating. Did the moderators ask any personal questions to other candidates? No. National issues like Economy, Immigration, Defense, Foreign Policy must have been the topics.

Still 14 months left before the election. More fun/entertainment is yet to come.

  1. most of the people love sugar coated lies to hard but solid truths. Donald Trump is arrogant in his own manner but he is not the only one who should be termed 'nasty'. let us wait and see if he comes in a power and says 'You are fired!' to Obama :)

    1. Thanks for your comments Ankita. Here is the reason I termed his comment "nasty". The female moderator asked an arrogant personal question to Mr. Trump. Mr Trump later said: "you could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever".

  2. Hmm.. politics is a twisted game. We can never be sure of who is right and who is wrong but then again there are only few daring ones to speak the words as they are without any addition.

There must be more about Mr. Trump.... He seems daring.

Good luck with voting. There's plenty of time though.

  3. In politics, it's difficult to say who fixed what. For example, the hate campaign might have been orchestrated by Mr. Trump himself to gain sympathy from people.

I didn't know that an independent person can also run for the post of President. What's the chance that they might win, if there is a chance at all?

    1. Thanks for your comments Rajesh. Yes, independents can also run for the post of the President of USA. They have no chance of winning. But powerful independents can spoil the chances of the Republican/Democratic candidates. George H,W. Bush lost the chance to be reelected President because Ross Perot ran as an independent and split the Republican votes and Clinton won. Al Gore lost to George Bush because Ralph Nader ran as a third party candidate and split the democratic votes.

    2. The politicians policy is to add a shade over the stains of their deed to blindfold the onlookers and its degree is too high in India.!4 months is a long time in politics.Let us see in whose hands the US's bridle falls. Thanks for sharing this info to people in India.

  4. Donald Trump doesn't sugar coat and that's the reason I like him. As I hardly follow US politics I have no idea what is going on but I will agree that the questions you mentioned were in ill taste.

    1. Thanks for your comments Harini. Those questions are OK if they were asked on an individual interview. But, as you said, they are in ill taste to be asking one candidate only in a 17 member participating debate.

  5. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the way Donald Trump speaks about women...or how he speaks to women.

    1. Thanks for your comments Bill and Tiger. Mr. Trump is a little better than you both. Bill, you gave drugs to women and had sex with them when they are unconscious. Tiger, you are a sex addict and had sex with 121 women. But poor Mr Trump raped his wife only - his wife later withdrew that complaint.

  6. Very interesting indeed! Even I know hardly anything about US politics but your article as well as the conversations with fellow-readers give lots of interesting inputs. As a fellow-reader has rightly said, it is not so easy to understand who is right and who is wrong. The thing is we can enjoy the drama to the fullest :)
    TC, keep smiling :)

  10. In books, I have read that even the candidates will be elected by public... That takes democracy to different level :)

    1. Thanks for your comments Satya. You are correct. First, people have to elect the person for the right to contest on behalf of a party. That is called "primary election". Party leaders cannot give "ticket" to a person to contest from a particular place.

  12. As an outsider, I would like to have a president who would like to focus on human welfare and not have any war and spend huge money which is going to dent the economy of US and hence other countries.

Let us have a great world!!
