Is This A Dream?

She passed away a few months ago. He was in bed but could not sleep. Tossing and turning. Finally went to sleep. He had a dream. Here are the details of that dream.

She was talking to someone on the phone. He asked her: What are you doing. You are supposed to have died. If you talk to your friend, she will know you are not dead and she will tell everyone.

She replied my friend does not know I am dead. He asked how long we can hide that. When the truth comes out what will be telling our children. What we will tell the people who came for the cremation. What we will tell the people who came for the 13th day function. They all will think we put on a big hoax.

She said children will be very happy to see me alive. And, I do not care about others.

He said let’s move to an unknown place like Finland where no one knows us. And, we will not contact anyone. She agreed but said we will tell our children only where we are living.

Dream ended. He woke up. Searched for her in the home. She was not there.

PS: This is not a fiction. Real dream.

  1. It's sweet and interesting that a mom is always a mom thinking about her kids

  3. Sometimes dreams may seem to accentuate the pain in reality, but eventually they help the pain subside, is what I think.

  4. For a mother, a world without her children doesn't exist. Even in dreams she constantly was thinking about her children...

  6. I read somewhere that dreams are a way of communication with the deceased or just an expression of our deepest desires. But such a dream is also a gift and one should not delve into analysis, just accept it with gratitude. Hope he finds strength and comfort.

  7. Dreams are what we want it to be...sometimes we ourselves wouldn't know what we want. Mothers cannot be separated from her children, at any age.

  8. Dreams are the visual representations of thoughts that lie buried deep in our mind and what we keep thinking about subconsciously... Its hard to come to terms with loss of a parent or a loved one. infact even 5 years after he has passed I still dream of my grandfather in present situations and settings.

    1. Thanks for your comments Asha. Such a caring mom is correct. The dream was real but it was only a dream. When he woke up she was not there. So no Finland.

  10. Even after more than 20 years, I still have vivid memories of my mother, and still feel as if she is alive, but when I go home I don't find her it is kind of odd. Same with my father. The more we think of them the more we get dreams about them, it is good in a way. Thanks for sharing this with all of us.

  11. We do wake up from dreams sometimes and realise that the other person is no longer there and their side of the bed is empty.
