Security in General

Just read in an Indian newspaper that the Trichy Airport will be closed for visitors until July 7. It is as a result of a terrorist attack in an airport in Istanbul, Turkey.

I am wondering if these government guys “room potta yosipanga?”. The English translation is “do they reserve a room and meet there to think like this?” It is a metaphor for idiotic thinking.

I can understand if they tighten the airport security. I can understand if they close the airport for visitors PERMANENTLY. What is the benefit of closing the airport for visitors for a week or 10 days only? Did the terrorists tell them “hey, we will be in Trichy until July 7 and then we are moving on”.

The reason for writing this post is I am still angry at what happened two years ago.

Two years ago we visited Madurai. Photography is allowed inside the Meenakshi Amman Temple for a fee. But we could not take any photo inside the Temple and Aayiram Kaal Mandapam (Hall of Thousand Pillars) because the week before our visit, there was some bomb blast in Hyderabad. Therefore, they prohibited any camera inside the Temple temporarily for 10 days. If they banned cameras permanently I can live with it. I do not understand the logic of temporarily banning cameras inside this Temple for 10 days as a result of a bomb blast in Hyderabad.

There is a saying in Tamil “Kumbakonathil idi idithaal Kutralathil mazhai peyyum”. In my English translation, I will change the names of the cities for better understanding. Here goes: If there is a thunder in Ahmedabad, it will rain in Allahabad. Same way – Bomb blast in Hyderabad, ban cameras for just 10 days in Madurai. That too, only during our visit.

These government officers, mostly IAS cadre, room pottu yosippanga.

I just give up.

  1. As usual ur posts are thought provoking. Probably its just means to tell the world they heard the news and are doing something about it. Sadly as u said they don't think.

If they would have today India would have been a different place to live.

  2. For them, it's a compliance procedure to tick off in order to prove that they have taken some precaution before a major calamity that never happened. Doesn't make sense, right? :P

    1. Thanks for your comments Rajesh. As you said, it does not make sense. I am questioning the person who issues this compliance procedure to close the airport for visitors just 6 days only.

  3. What's with this 10 days !! I too would have understood if they have made the security more strict... but temporary ban for 10 days... I wonder what purpose it serves

Everything happening around us is no way related but at last people say we are mad . Lol :) there are few who believe everything they do is perfect . Trichy and turkey !!!! Super .

  5. Whoa! Where is the logic? 10 days and then a random airport..If you ask those folks for justification; they might have a "building strongu..aana basement weak-u" moment!

  7. Permanent banning would have atleast made some sense, even though tightening the security would be a better solution. It doesn't make any sense to do it for 10 days!

  8. This is silly! The top most officials wouldn't have given the order....the middle range officers must have 'room pottu yosichchirukka'

  9. Security is brisk immediately after a blast somewhere and then after 10 days everything is back to normal. God only knows how these people work maybe like you say " room pottu yosippa" that too in some star hotel at taxpayers money.

  10. May be that some laps or lags might have been noticed only when some emergency emerged. They may feel that within a few days they can do all security arrangements.
Had it been in Madurai,Hyderabad would have done the same thing. That is India, they require some slaps to set things right. But as you felt it boils the blood of persons who face this. So endure please as things here are like this.Nice post.
