Something Strange

I had ordered a new credit card from a company called Capital One. Their credit cards are popular and it is a decent company. Here is the strange thing.

I have not received the credit card yet. Once I receive the credit card I have to call Capital One and activate it. Then only I can use it to charge any expense.

I was looking my online account for that card. There is a charge for $996.00 from a company called Agoda.com. I checked in the internet and it is a travel plan company.

I called Capital One. They immediately cancelled the unreceived card. They also immediately gave me a credit for $996.00. I am very pleased with Capital One.

They are sending me a new credit card.

My question is how can someone get hold of my card and charge on it when I have not yet received it and activate.

I thought someone stole my mail. But I received that card by mail this evening.

  1. It's called hacking...could be capital one, your email, phone whichever everything is hacked nowadays .... I once had my bank account hacked to an overdraft of 12K.... also multiple charges on a card that I was approved for...been there done that....it's a pain....

    1. Thanks for your comments Dee. Capital One immediately removed that $996.00 charge. Very decent company.

  2. Full appreciation for Capital One for their prompt action of recrediting the amount. It is 100% hacking only. If the company jumps 8 feet on safety and security grounds the hackers jump 16 feet. What to do we live in such a world

    1. Thanks for your comments Gowri. My question how come someone can hack even before the rightful owner can activate the card.

  4. You did the right thing by reporting it to Capital One immediately. Even in India we need to report such suspicious actions within a certain time frame otherwise the onus will be on us to prove that we didn't make such an online purchase! Kudos to Capital One for acting swiftly.

    1. Thanks for your comments Ed. You a low life axxhole. You stole my credit card and charged a quick flight with it? To where? Hong Kong to Moscow? Going to do it again with my new card? Buy an airline ticket from Moscow to Vladivostok? Better check with KGB if you can travel outside of Moscow.

  6. That's really strange. But probably not so in these days of weird online deceit.
    Glad Capital One made amends.
I have one doubt though. Since you hadn't made any transaction on the card, what prompted you to check the online statement? Did you get any alert that there has been a transaction on the card?

    1. Thanks for your comments Pradeep. It is my habit for a very long time. I have 3 credit cards and 1 bank account. I check my online account on these 4 every day. It takes only 4 minutes. Just glance them for any unusual activity. Also, I send checks for birthdays for my kids. They don't cash the check for many months. I request them every week to cash that check. I also look into my bank account if they had cashed it or not.

  7. The company may be genuine, but someone may be there with the art of manipulation. Nice topic.
