Juicy Court Case

Donald Trump is facing many court cases as a result of his disagreement with the 2020 Presidential election results. They are:

Classified Document Case – Trump is charged with taking secret classified documents with him when he left office in 2021.

Election Interference – Trump is charged with instigating his supporters to protest at the Capitol building (Parliament) challenging the election results.

On the above 2 cases, Trump is pleading Presidential Immunity. That is, he is absolutely immune from any law suit while in office. The prosecutors rejected this argument. They asked the supreme court to rule. The SC refused and asked them to go thru court of appeals. The court of appeals rejected Trump’s claim. Now Trump has appealed this to the Supreme Court and they said they will hear his case. (Remember Supreme Court has 6 to 3 judges in favor of Trump.)

Now for the juicy court case.

State of Georgia – Trump and 18 others have charged with violating the state’s anti-racketeering law by scheming to illegally overturn his 2020 election loss. Miss Fani Willis is the District Attorney (Public Prosecutor) handling the case. She appointed in 2022 a special prosecutor named Nathan Wade to be the lead prosecutor to handle this case. Mr. Wade was paid $650,000 for this.

One of the defendants’ lawyers filed a motion with the judge that Willis had an improper and clandestine relationship with Wade and demanded all charges against her client be dropped. That lawyer argued that Willis should be disqualified from the case because “the district attorney chose to appoint her romantic partner.”

Willis admitted her romantic relationship with Wade but said it happened after she appointed Wade in 2022. But the opposition lawyer filed that the romance began in 2019 and she knowingly appointed her romantic partner in 2022 and paid him $650,000. The lawyer claimed they took trips out of the country and cruise. Willis testified that she reimbursed Wade for her portion of the expenses thru cash and other means. (I wonder what other means mean)

The judge gave his ruling today. Either Willis or Wade withdraw from the case. This will help Trump because when his trial begins along with 18 others, their lawyers will bring up this case again and again in front of a jury.

Latest news. Special Prosecutor and boyfriend Wade resigned.

  1. If Miss Fani has the authority to appoint, and if Mr. Wade is qualified to be the prosecutor, I don't see why this should be incorrect irrespective of their private relationship status.

    1. Thanks for your comments Rajesh. The defense lawyers' in this case were trying to prove that Fani entered into a corrupt bargain with Wade during their romantic relationship to place him on the prosecution team, pay him hundreds of thousands of dollars, so that the two of them could benefit financially.

      The judge agreed.

    2. My thinking is Trump will appeal this ruling. He will say there is personal animosity by Fani Willis towards the defendants. The court will dismiss Fani Willis.

  2. What is legal must be ethical. I am not aware whether his appointment conflicts ethical test.

  4. I think after Water gate scam no scam news has spread globally including Trump case. It is sad to note even countries like USA have corruption and favouritism at the top level. I will be happy to hear there is one country which is free from corruption and favouritism. Can you name one please

    1. Thanks for your comments Gowri. This situation is pure nepotism and not corruption. All countries have corruption and favoritism. But the degree of it differs. For example, in India who stops your car for drunk driving will let you go if you pay Rs.1000 as lanjam (baksheesh). It is done at every level in India form lowest peon to the top most senior minister. You cannot do that in USA. In USA corruption is done at the highest level like a senator introduces a bill to change in rule to favor a particular industry.

  5. Yes. Legality, morality, ethics, etc all intertwined. Now I am worried about Trump's threat of violence and mayhem if he doesn't win the election

    1. Thanks for your comments Pradeep. I am worried too. But in reality, a President cannot act "alone". He has so many advisors and protocols to follow. Presidents acting in a whim alone happens only in movies.

    2. Now his campaign has clarified that his remarks were made in the context of the automobile industry in the context of import tariffs.
You are right about how a president has a team of advisors and there are protocols to be followed. But the moot point is whether Trump is like any other president or not.
