Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is a Jamaican Track and Field Sprinter. She is a 2-time Olympic Gold Medalist and won a total of 8 Olympic medals. She is considered one of the fastest women in the history. She has a son in an elementary school. There was a school day sports function. There was a running race for parents also for fun. Shirley-Ann also participated and ran with other parents. Please see this video:
She does not hold back against other parents. She has no class.
Two other incidents come to my mind,
An 8-year-old fitness enthusiast Demarjay Smith told a TV host that he can beat Usain Bolt. That TV host arranged a friendly race between these 2. Demarjay lead from start to finish and won. We could see Usain Bolt was purposely running slow.
Bill Parcels was Head Coach for the New York Giants, an American Professional Football team. His grandson was studying at an elementary school. His grandson was playing Flag Football. Bill Parcels came one time as a Coach for his grandson’s team. The opposite team’s coach and the kids parents were shocked to see Bill Parcels coaching on the other side.
Bill Parcels realized their shock and went over to the other side. He told the opposite team’s coach and parents that he came here and participate in coaching only as a grand father and not as a coach for the New York Giants.
A wonderful post with a lesson in it. Humility is inborn and not cultivated! Thank you.

DeleteAn interesting blog. Three incidents are of a different context. I think Shelly might have acceded to her fans (parents) request, to see her real speed in person. We ourselves are thrilled to see her going like a bullet, in the video. I don't think she will be that cheap (minded) to show off. Usain Bolt might not have wanted to demoralise the spirit of the kid and instead gave a psychological boost to the kid. Highly appreciable magnanimity. Bill might have wanted to encourage both the teams by giving his valuable tips. We don't know what those three really had in their mind. Agree?
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments Gowri. I personally think she has no class. If I were in her place, I would just be a spectator and not run against some "moms".
DeleteThat Usain Bolt incident could have been like a reality show... pre-arranged race, I mean.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments Rajesh. It was certainly pre-arranged. Otherwise do you think a 8 year old kid can beat Usain Bolt?
DeleteSomething for all of us to learn from them. Thanks for sharing these anecdotes.
