Ken Norton

One of the greatest boxing champions of all times, Ken Norton, passed away today at the age of 70.

He fought 50 matches. Won 42. Knocked Out 33. Lost 7. Drew 1.

Ken Norton fought 3 times against Muhammad Ali.  Their first bout is memorable even today.  Ken was a 7 to 1 underdog.  Prohibitive favorite was Ali.  But Ken won on a decision.  However, in that fight what Ken did to Ali was never able to be done by any other boxer.  Ken Norton broke Muhammad Ali’s jaw.

The other 2 bouts, Ali won.

Ali defeated everyone mentally at first.  But he could not do that to Ken Norton.

They both respected each other off the ring.

May Ken Norton rest in peace.

PS: Those who think boxing is a cruel sport…..Please take it easy.  There are lot of people who enjoy boxing.

  1. Except Muhammad Ali, I didn't know the names of any famous boxers! Thanks to this post, now I know one more - Ken Norton.

  2. So sad. I always liked Kenny Norton.
He fought me 3 times and was the only one to ever break my jaw.
39 rounds against The Greatest…that’s like getting a PhD in BOXING.

    Regards,
    Muhammad Ali

  3. Oh brother…Macho Camacho last year and now Ken Norton?

Norton is probably one of the most underrated heavyweight boxers of all time.
He was one of only two people to defeat Muhammad Ali…in Ali’s prime.

A very good boxer but was born in the wrong era.
He was a boxer when Ali, Frazier, and Foreman were at their peak.
If Norton was in his prime 10 years earlier or 10 years later…this would be a whole different conversation.

    RIP Ken Norton.

  5. Thanks for your comments Mr. Ali. Complement from you is the greatest complement for Ken Norton. As always, you are very humble.

  6. Thanks for your comments The Cagey Bee. As you said, he fought against some of the greatest. Had he come on the scene 10 years later, he would have taken over all 4 of them -- IBF, WBA, WBC, and WBO.

    May he rest in peace.

  10. Thanks for your comments Asha. Norton was one of the best boxers of all time. It is ok if you have not heard about him. I will give one example. 99.9% of Americans have not heard about Sachin Tendulkar.

  13. If people die because of any sports, then it raises a question mark. Getting killed in this way is not at all good.
