Loophole

Here are two examples of how people take advantage.

According to Taiwan labor laws, newly married can get 8 days off for enjoying honeymoon. A Taiwanese couple took advantage of this and divorced and married each other 4 times within 37 days of their marriage. Therefore, they claimed 32 days off for honeymoon.

His company disapproved his leave claims. He took the case to the Taipei city labor department. The labor department fined the company for violating the labor laws.

They got married on April 6, 2020 and divorced on April 16. Got married one day later on April 17 and divorced again on April 28. Married again on April 29 and divorced on May 11. Married again on May 12.

Taiwanese Mayor said they are reevaluating the marriage-leave policy.

I want to share a real-life story. The following anecdote is not a fiction.

Long time ago, in our company, there was a girl who was a first line manager. Her supervisor was a second line manager. One day, this girl, the first line manager, filed a case within the company hierarchy alleging “sexual harassment” against her male second line manager.

The company wanted to avoid this case going to a public litigation because it will be bad for the company’s image and PR purpose. So, the company decided to settle the case with her,

Meantime, the Second Level manager resigned his job. The first line manager, who complained, got an excellent cash compensation for her “suffering”. She also quit the company immediately.

They both got married in a week.

  2. The issue is, at some distant future, when a prospective employer enquires about one of them or does a background check, their actions will work against them.

  3. For the crafty, there are devious ways to make money even legally.
I am reminded of a story where a king unable to mend a corrupt official finally gave him the job of counting the waves from the seashore hoping he cannot make money here.
In a few days, all the fishermen complained in chorus that the official was forcing them to pay for disturbing the waves and preventing him from counting , a job assigned by king!

  4. Wow! ... So "innovative"!!! Long long ago, when Harshad Mehta case was in the headlines, I have heard people saying that he did nothing wrong. He was only using the loopholes in the system.

  5. Exceptions make quite the buzz than the norms. Now, when the loopholes are visible, Systems are bound to engage in a damage control. Else? What about their image? Reputation? Loopholes aren't the major concern, rumour is! Well, talks would make rounds too, even more than the exception gathering the attention in the first place. Quite a sight!

  8. Once a person can cheat others and once a group can cheat a person, eventually the truth will bubble up and appear on the surface.
To claim SC status for admission in a premier govt college for the son, a couple-wife SC n Husband non-SC, gets divorced and stayed together.

    Nice information.

  9. People just like to find loopholes in a system to make the most of a situation.
But filing a sexual harassment case is probably taking it too far.
