Jeopardy

Jeopardy is an Emmy award winning quiz game show in USA. This show started in 1984 and, after 37 years, it is still one of the most popular shows in US Television history.

I may be wrong. But in my personal opinion, if you want to be a contestant and win here, one has to have Ph.D. in every subject in the world.

The host of the show, Alex Trebek, was even more popular than the show itself. He hosted this show from 1984 until his death last year. He is a Canadian. In 1998 Alex became a naturalized US citizen,

As Katie Couric, American television journalist, said ’His omnipresence is very reassuring”. Alex Trebek is someone that people have really liked having in their living room every day for almost 35 years.

Alex was such a popular personality, that after his death the producers of Jeopardy are finding it difficult to find a suitable replacement. So far, they have tried 16 people and still unable to select a replacement.

Included among the 16 are:

Anderson Cooper, CNN news

Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Chief Medical Correspondent for CNN

George Stephanopoulos, Senior advisor to President Clinton and now with ABC news

Aaron Rodgers, American football player and a graduate from University of California, Berkeley

Here is an episode of the Jeopardy hosted by Alex Trebek. Please watch.

  2. When I hear of this quiz show, it's IBM's Watson that comes to my mind.
In this one, Carlos looks like a child prodigy, a human encyclopedia!
Ya, it happens. Some anchors for some reason become very popular. And when they move on, the show takes a hit.
Since most of the clues had US context, I could hardly relate to them. But hats off to the contestants.

    1. Thanks for your comments Pradeep. Carlos is very good. Just FYI. A guy by the name of Ken Jennings won Jeopardy on 74 consecutive days winning more than $2.5 million.

  3. The game show seems to move so fast... I wonder how the contestants keep up! Hosting a show for 36 years should be a record of sorts...

  4. Thanks, you come up with bewildering variety of posts with each one as interesting as the other.
The nearest we had to Jeopardy was a very popular show with Siddharth Basu

  5. I think comparing with Alex Trebek will be natural after he hosting the show for decades. But i think the new host should be a fresh face than a known figure, if they want to succeed

  6. Long association with a show with its host will etch an impression in viewers' minds. It will take time to erase his picture from the canvas of their minds. The show is indeed mind-capturing.
