The 2026 midterm elections are over, and the results mark a major setback for Trump and the Republican Party. This was not just a narrow Democratic victory. Democrats made significant gains across the country.
However, the Alaska Senate race remains undecided. Only 74% of the votes were counted so far. Here is the latest vote count.
Mary Peltola – Democrat: 102,962
Dan S. Sullivan – Republican: 102,325
Daniel Sullivan – Independent (the so-called “decoy” candidate): 3,600
Even before the election, Republicans complained that Democrats had placed an independent candidate with the same name as the Republican candidate on the ballot to confuse voters. Democrats have denied any involvement with this candidate.
Trump’s Justice Department had threatened legal action if the Republican candidate narrowly lost. With the race still unresolved, the DOJ wants to prevent certification of the election results.
Latest update: The DOJ has filed a lawsuit, but a federal judge dismissed it. The DOJ has appealed the decision.
Indian Ingenuity!
If I were advising the Republicans, I would suggest a little reverse strategy.
When Mary Peltola runs for re-election in 2032, secretly recruit ten people named Mary Peltola and encourage them to run as independents!
Let's see how that works out for them!
Good future strategy. By the way, the setback for Trump is welcomed by you or you support Trump?
