Baseball Tickets

This week baseball fever is at its height in USA. World Series game is going on between New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies. People’s interest in this World Series is similar to a T20 Cricket World Cup Final match.

World Series is decided on the best of 7 games. First two games were played in New York on October 28 and 29. The third, fourth, and fifth game will be played in Philadelphia on October 31, November 1 and 2. The sixth and seventh game (if necessary) will be played in New York on November 4 and 5. All tickets are sold out.

Susan Finkelstein

Susan Finkelstein, aged 43, lives in Philadelphia and is a great fan of Philadelphia Phillies Baseball team. She tried very hard to get tickets to go to any of the 3 games to be played in Philadelphia. She could not get the tickets. Therefore, she took out an advertisement on Craiglist. Following is the advertisement:

“Diehard Phillies fan – gorgeous tall buxom blonde – in desperate need of two world series tickets”

Philadelphia police saw this advertisement. They decided that Susan was so desperate to see her beloved team in the World Series that she offered to exchange sex for tickets. They set up a meeting with her and an undercover police officer in a bar. There was a conversation between the two of them. They did not describe the actual conversation. Other undercover police officers from the nearby tables came to her and arrested her for prostitution. She is released on bond.

Susan’s lawyer says his client is a fan of the Phillies and wanted to go and see the game. According to him, she may have dropped double entendres in her advertisement but never explicitly offered sex. If somebody read into that posting a sexual connotation, that's on them. There's no overt sexual reference.

Susan said: I did not do anything wrong. So, I am not embarrassed about my actions. I am embarrassed about how I was arrested. I was hoping to get cheap tickets. May be meet some one, and talk, and bat my eyelashes and maybe get some tickets.

She said at the end of the interview that she needed 2 tickets – one for her and one for her husband.

A local radio station heard about this. They gave Susan two tickets for free so that she and her husband can enjoy the game.

By the way, as of this morning, New York Yankees are leading Philadelphia Phillies 3 to 1.

  1. Phew, that was some interpretation.. lucky of her that she got the tickets in the end...but it is not unusual at all...people use so many different ways to go to watch their favourite team play live...

I had almost put my final accountancy examination of my graduation year at stake for watching world cup final between India and OZ...I did clear that paper and with pretty good marks, so it was all worth, but India lost that match :(

btw, did I tell you? if I watch a cricket match when India is playing, India ends up losing...and guess what, I am watching one right now, and we have already lost 9 wickets..

  3. I guess you have some crazy followers of the game. Yet, though the interpretation of the ad might have been wrong, she seems to be one crazy fan to have to put out an ad for the tickets.
And atleast in India, I would rather watch any match in the comfort of the house rather than jostle with crowds.

  4. Thanks for your comments Neha. Yes, she used some unorthodox method to get the tickets.

May be there is a jinx when you watch India play. I think the Indian cricket officials should pay you lot of money (per game) for you not to watch. ha ha ha.

  10. Thanks for your comments Boston Red Sox and New York Mets. I can understand your disappointment. Better luck next year.

As I am writing this, Phillies are ripping the Yankees 6 to 1 in the 3rd innings. Happy? Because I am.

  11. Some guts huh.. She used suggestive language claiming she was a die-hard fan.. Very amused to observe the extent to which ppl will stoop to get what they want.
I think the team she was supporting ought to do something about it.. Lest she advertises again in future!

  12. This can happen only outside India:)...the way people are crazy for cricket here, there they are for different games..once I was in Cincinaati, and there normally one could see none on the road, but the day baseball match was on...I could see as if the whole city has come out(we were living near the stadium)

  13. I read this piece of news the other day. It was not as detailed as your post. It was vague - A die hard fans offers sex online to grab 2 tickets

But this is an example of how things are misinterpreted. By the way, why didn't they release the conversation that happened between her and an undercover office in a bar?

  14. Thanks for your comments lostworld. Poor girl was interested to see a game live with her husband. She got overboard. Sorry for her.

  15. Thanks for your comments Renu. Cicinaati Reds Baseball Team..I love them. They are OK in my books. This thing happens in India too. I read a news somewhere that some guy sold his shop and other properties to see a cricket match.

  16. Thanks for your comments Insignia. They did not release the conversation because they may have a problem between themselves. I think you are intellegent enough to understand.

  23. This very unique.. how the interpretation effect..

  24. End justifies the means? Can't imagine this in India...I do not think people are really that passionate about a game here, even cricket. But as most games are shown live on national TV, may be nobody has become that desperate yet.

  25. Thanks for your comments Swatantra. Everyone interprets what they want to see.
