Iruvar Ullam (Tamil Movie)

Irvar Ullam (Two Hearts) is a 2021 Tamil Movie. I don’t know when it was released. But it is available in Amazon Prime in 2021. Starring Vinay and Archana Gupta. Directed by Ramesh G.

This is not be confused with a Tamil movie made in 1963 with the same title, starring Sivaji Ganesan and Saroja Devi.

This is not a movie review. This is what I thought after watching the movie.

This movie is about a TamBrahm (Tamil Brahmin) IT professional working in USA. He marries a girl from India. They were living happily. Then comes this guy’s ex-fiancé who is determined to take revenge on this guy for cancelling their marriage. Did she succeed?

This movie is somewhat realistic about the life in USA of many IT guys. Some of them are:

Enjoy as much as you can in USA, but go back to India and marry an orthodox virgin from the same community.

Busy with office work all the time and neglect the newly married wife.

This FOB (Fresh Off the Boat) newly married wife wants to be more Americanized than the Americans. (Here I am looking for a right word. Poseur? Is this the right word?)

In this movie, at the Krishna Jayanthi Pooja in someone’s home, every one drinks alcohol. This is pure exaggeration, me think. (I have lived my entire adult life in USA and attended many poojas in many homes including ours.  Never seen alcohol served at these religious functions.)

This movie is a MUST see, at least one time, by those parents (and their daughters) who are looking for a groom in USA.

    1. Thanks for your comments Dee. Technically, FOB is only for the first 7 years. You have crossed that threshold and moved in to ABCD group

  2. Sure I will watch it tonight. Hope you remember 47 days (Tamil movie - quite old written by Shivashankari). This is also about a FOB undergoing mental agony for 47 days and how she escapes from USA to India. By the way, I was just thinking how can Dee be an FOB since I have been watching for quite sometime that the first comment would be from the name Dee. Then I guessed, might have been a follower from abroad like me and recently moved to USA. Your reply clarified that what is FOB. My recommendation, Android Kunjappan, a Malayalam movie - about how sons settled in USA treat their old age parents

    1. Thanks for your comments Gowri. I know very well about the movie 47 Days. This “Iruvar Ullam” is a completely different story. By the Way, story in 47 Days happens in Paris, France and not in USA.

I know Dee. Dee is a friend of mine. She definitely is not a FOB.

  4. People will be people anywhere... Just that in some places there are more opportunities and hence the degree of already existing recklessness might be slightly higher.

  5. Stand corrected. 47 naatkal happens in Paris and Android in Russia. Generally children settled abroad don't give importance to their parents emotions. That's what I meant and that's shown in Android.

  10. Interesting movie.
Recently, read a news report about how Indian wives are facing discrimination/torture by such NRI grooms and many have filed for divorce.

It is sad when wrong things are portrayed in movies e.g. to show the Western lifestyle adoption by Indians, why should alcohol consumption be shown during Pujas when that really isn't the case?
They should research well and take Indian-Americans or localites' views into consideration before filming.
