The Best Photobomb

Remember, recently I wrote a post on Photobomb.  Look at this picture.  Don’t you think this is the best photobomb!

This photo was clicked exactly on this day, 45 years ago, on July 20, 1969.
Can you tell me what this photo is all about?  OK I will tell.

On July 20, 1969, when American Astronaut Neil Armstrong set foot on the Moon, he took a photo of his lunar module on the surface of the moon.  His shadow appears as a photobomb.
Since his shadow also appears, I would call this a “selfie” also.
What do you think?

  2. This is an interesting photo SG. You will of course remember the conspiracy theory surrounding the actual landing. There are many reasonings as to why the landing could be a hoax. One of them is the theory of shadows

The only light source is from the sun. The basic question is how is his shadow illuminated? It should have been shrouded in darkness. It means there were more than one source of light and also the shadows are in different directions. (not seen in this photo)

But yeah this could be the first selfie though. :-)

  4. Thanks for your comments Insignia. I am aware of the conspiracy theory. May be NASA has the most modern lab facilities to "edit" the photo.

  5. I read an article on how the first landing of the astronaut on the moon might have been filmed on earth! Not sure how true this might be, but the arguments were very convincing.

  8. When Neil Armstrong landed on the moon, he said something which became a famous quote.
"That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

Buzz Aldrin was also part of that mission and walked on the moon.
Do you remember what he said when he walked on the moon?
Of course you don't remember because nobody cares what the "second guy".
Second, just means you're the first loser.
    It's all about being FIRST.

    Regards,
    Roger Bannister

p.s. I also strongly believe in the conspiracy theory about the moon landing being a hoax. Have believed it for many years. Nice Selfie though!

  10. Thanks for your comments Roger. It is an honor you visited my blog.

You are absolutely correct. FIRST is the only thing that counts. Once upon a time it was believed human being cannot run a mile within 4 minutes. You were the first human being to finish a mile under 4 minutes. (May 6, 1954 – 3 min 59.4 sec). But your record was broken within 45 days. Since them so many other athletes broke the previous records. But the athletic world still remembers only your name, because you were the first human being to run a mile under 4 minutes.

Buzz Aldrin is very unlucky. Per NASA rules and regulations, only the junior officer should get out of the module first. Senior officer will be inside the module watching and ready for any emergency. On the moon landing, Buzz, junior officer, was getting ready to get off the module and land on the moon. Neil Armstrong, the commander (senior officer) ordered Buzz Aldrin to follow him and he stepped on the moon first instead.

  12. Interesting photo SG. I remember the lesson we had in English about Apollo 11. There was a third guy, a Michael Collins who remained in the main shuttle, conspiracy theories will always surround any achievement or famous events but how thrilled these men must have been when they embarked on that epic journey.

  14. Thanks for your comments Reshma. Yes, there was Michael Collins also. Armstrong was the senior most officer, followed by Collins, and Aldrin was the junior most.

Please read the comments from Roger Bannister and my reply to him. Armstrong stole the show.
